In the dream, what became too heavy

to carry—the blackberry stains,

the unswallowed medicine,

the face of each person, each bruise healed

so many colors it had become a sunset

and this is the story of the way the ocean

fell in love with the moon.

In the dream, I saw a way to survive and I was full

of Joy. If it is true, that all we leave behind are the

stories we tell, then this is how I remember it.

From me there flowed a whole river,

and the ground itself took a breath.
